Through everything... do you feel that you learned soemthing?
by anotheropenviewpoint ini am new to the board and have read countless gripes and pokes at "the organization" but i fail to find one interesting question.. in preface... i was disfellowshiped myself over 5 years ago.
in that time, i had done much searching, visited many churches and faithes.. going to some for as short as one session and some as long as 6 - 8 months.
after i felt my search was in vein i stopped attempting to go to these shurches all together.. i never forgot how to pray through.

It taught me how to get tied up in a load of rope and lose ends that accomplish nothing but surface image for the person and the organisation. There are the genuine few who think what they're doing is the right way to go and willfully turn a blind eye to all the cultisms.
When I left I learnt about been able to live and let live and also being happy with who I am not as an advert for the Organisation. I was always confused by the image they always tried to create as a very young child, I knew it wasn't real somehow - it just didn't add up. To be honest anyone who has experienced it knows it's a complete shambles.
Did I learn anything?
Yes, but much more than they would have ever liked me to know.

How do you react to being complimented?
by Maverick inas witnesses we were told to "be lowly of mind".
and though the corporation has no problem tooting its own horn, it was always in bad form for the rf to do that.
as a business owner i know that self-promotion is essential for success.

I usually just brush them off as well - say if it was about something I was wearing etc. I'd usually just say thanks. If it was a compliment about something I was interested in, then I would probably be uneasy about it - a bit embarrased .

Why I think the jw's are a cult and not a religion
by Ron1968 infortunately, it is not the case with me but this deal about parents not talking to their children who have been disfellowshipped is horrid.
it is bad enough for those who have been disfellowshipped, but to have their own family turn on them?
as such, i think the jw's are a cult as they separate families.

My brother was DF’d and it’s very different for both of us in this ‘religion’.
I faded and everyone is fine but they also know how I feel about it now – things can get a bit awkward now I’ve ‘come out’ but I am not shunned like he is – might as well be though, sometimes. I worry because my brother has been through so much with this crap and now he’s getting to know the truth he’s really healing and feeling better about things and his understanding of life but he is getting rather bitter about a lot of stuff which is totally understandable.
I hope it’s a phase he can come through and start to see the bigger picture but like I say it’s disgusting how this cult breaks up families and not just that but robs families of any sort of true love. I meet all different classes of people but they all seem to have that basic family instinct that a lot of us brought up as JWs, just don’t posses.
Is it a cult?
I think we can all answer that without much doubt.

Do you believe in God now?
by Ron1968 in.
this question has probably been asked before, but since i am a newbie, i wouldn't know.. anyway, i would like to ask if you believe in god or a higher power since becoming an ex-jw?.

I'm not convinced.
I think if God does exist then he knows who you are as a person.
If you are a complete twat then you may have something to worry about even if it's just your life in general, if not then you'll just feel good in yourself when it matters.

Are you still at War with yourself?
by Maverick inafter deprogramming, i found that i was a lot more at ease and comforable with who i am.
this transferred to how others treated me.
i no longer struggle with that unending battle between who i was/am and who the j-dud masters told me i should be.

Basically the same Maverick, but I am just at the start as far as building a new life. I mean I started college and will be starting university, I have come a long way from what I was but I am still inexperienced in a lot of ways as far as the real world go's. Life is exciting now. It reminds me of part of a lyric I wrote ' ...this twisted reality that keeps me i ntrigued '. As far as JWs go, not a blip anymore - thank God. When I do 'experience' a JW (usually family or friends), it reminds me of how sad and weak they really are. Only they can do the job of saving themselves though.

What did you miss out on most, because you were stuck in JW land ???
by run dont walk in.
could of been as a child, teenanger, adult, anytime in your life, did you feel that being a jw (or jw parents) prevented you from doing things you really wanted to do.
why does the watchtower find it necessary to "rob" people of being human and enjoy things in life ??

To be honest, I just think - f#$k it.
It's about what I make of my life now. It's pointless holding on when there's so much to catch up on and experience. Sometimes it can be hard, sometimes it's makes life more exciting.

Microphone geek, magazine behind the counter geek, sound geek,
That was me too! I always laugh my head off when I think of what I was like as a JW. It's so funny!

They also recomend elders give caution about seeking professional help, especially 'Group Therapy' or 'Talk Therapys'. They say 'Talking indiscriminately to others about child abuse may result in circulating damaging and harmful talk' Refering to PROVERBS 17:9.
How they truely love the victims of child abuse in there organisation.
